Juan Francisco Estrada (43-3) and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (51-3) will now contest the WBC world super flyweight title when they meet on December 3rd for their trilogy bout in Glendale, Arizona.
The belt was recently declared vacant as champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez opted to move down in weight. But now the title becomes part of a historic trilogy bout.
Estrada and Chocolatito first collided back in 2012 in Los Angeles. Chocolatito’s WBA world light flyweight belt was on the line, and he would successfully defend by defeating Estrada by unanimous decision.
Nine years on, the pair collided for the second time, this time in Dallas, Texas. It would be a unification fight as Estrada would be defending his WBC super flyweight title and Chocolatito his WBA super flyweight belt. The outcome was different this time around, as Estrada would be the victor, picking up a split decision in an epic encounter.
It was only fitting that a world title would be on the line when these two warriors meet for the third time. This bout will close the respectful rivalry once and for all, and all the action goes down at the Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona and will be live on DAZN.
