WATCH: TAYLOR VS SERRANO: Meet The UNDERCARD

Written by Jared Parry on 27th April 2022.

As we approach a historic night in Madison Square Garden as Katie Taylor defends her undisputed lightweight crown against seven weight world champion Amanda Serrano, we talk about the stars making up this stacked card in New York.

The undercard see's a huge undisputed bout in the female super middleweight division. WBC and WBO champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn faces WBA and IBF champion Elin Cederroos in a huge fight to crown an undisputed champion. Crews-Dezurn actually lost on her pro debut, but to one of the most respectable names in female boxing, Claressa Shields. Crews-Dezurn bounced back to outpoint Maricela Cornejo in her fifth fight to pick up the WBC strap, before rematching and defeating Cornejo two fights later, this time with the vacant WBO belt on the line.

Cederroos is undefeated with a record of 8-0, and after impressing early in her career, she made a statement by defeating Femke Hermans over ten rounds for the vacant IBF title in just her fifth fight. Last time out, Cederroos added the WBA belt to her arsenal as she travelled to Atlantic City to defeat Alicia Napoleon Espinosa.

The undercard also see's a blockbuster showdown between two former world champions, Liam Smith and Jessie Vargas. Smith has been in with huge names, such as Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia. His last bout seen him knock out local rival Anthony Fowler in his hometown, as Liam now looks to re enter the world title picture.

Vargas also possesses a resume full of huge names. Vargas has faced the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner. Vargas' last bout seen him come up short to Mikey Garcia in Texas. It's worth noting this bout is taking place in the super welterweight division, Smith was a former WBO super welterweight champion, however, Vargas was WBO welterweight champion, so it begs the question as to whether Smith's experience at this weight could play to his advantage?

Team GB Olympic Gold medallist Galal Yafai makes his US debut in just his second fight. Yafai transitioned to the pro game quickly as he picked up the WBC international title in his debut. He now defends that belt against Miguel Cartagena.

One of the brightest prospects in the US, Austin Williams returns to the ring, as he looks to pick up his first title. Williams faces the undefeated Chordale Booker for the vacant WBA continental Americas title as Williams looks to move up the levels.

Eye-catching prospect Skye Nicolson completes a quick turn around as she has her third fight within two months, as she steps up to face Shanecqua Paisley Davis on this card. Super lightweight prospect Reshat Mati looks to continue his rise as he faces a tough test in Joe Eli Hernandez.

Finally, light heavyweight Khalil Coe looks to build on his second round knockout victory last time out, as he faces off with William Langston in Coe's first six rounder.
