Inoue made his entrance in his home country with Japanese music star Hotei playing him to the ring. Donaire was treated to a respectful reception as he entered the Saitama Super Arena second.
Donaire took centre ring early on in the first, but was lured into Inoue's offence. The pair began to trade, as Inoue was looking to counter, until the dying embers of the first as Inoue landing a perfect right hand to drop Donaire.

Inoue looked to build on the first, as he backed Donaire up straight away, Inoue landed a huge left to wobble Donaire early. Donaire attempted to fight fire with fire, but Inoue had him against the ropes. As Inoue was unloading, Donaire managed to turn him onto the ropes, but Inoue caught Donaire on the way out, causing Donaire's legs to go to wobble sending him into survival mode. Donaire stayed up but Inoue seized on the opening as he knocked Donaire out with a big shot to end the fight.

Inoue now holds the WBA, IBF and WBC world titles at bantamweight, the only belt eluding Inoue from undisputed status is the WBO title, held by Britain's Paul Butler.
