The stage was set inside the Telford International Centre, for an explosive twelve round encounter, that like many British title fights before didn't disappoint.
In the opening round of the contest there was an accidental clash of heads which resulted in a cut across the nose of the challenger and a cut on the forehead of the champion. Towards the end of the first round Davies landed a huge straight which knocked Leach down.

Marc Leach started to take more control during the middle of the contest and many, including Richie Woodhall at ringisde, had the contest even going into the last round. At the final bell, both fighters knew that the contest was tight but with the official scores of 116-113, 115-113, and 118-111 in favour of the home town hero, Liam Davies.

In his ringside interview, he dedicated the fight to his father who was in his corner, and also promised to take the Lonsdale belt to his grandfathers grave.
