Hamzah Sheeraz survived a knockdown to stop Francisco Emanuel Torres in five rounds to win the WBC Silver title on a stacked bill which also saw Mark Heffron crowned British and Commonwealth champion following victory over Lennox Clarke at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Sheeraz established his jab early, and progressively loaded it up as he could see the problems it was causing for Torres. Sheeraz would find a breakthrough at the beginning of round three as he would drop Torres. Torres would respond as he would land a heavy right hand of his own which would floor Sheeraz. Sheeraz rose to his feet and would find another knockdown as Torres would hit the canvas again. Round five saw the closing shot as a sharp right hand would floor Torres once more, this time resulting in the stoppage.
The undercard saw Dennis McCann pass his biggest test to date with flying colours as he would become the first man to stop James Beech Jr. Beech Jr. was game but McCann implemented his relentless work rate to drop Beech Jr. in both the first and the eighth round, the latter knockdown resulting in the towel being thrown in from the Beech Jr. corner.
Mark Heffron finally picks up a British title at the third time in asking. Heffron had previously been unsuccessful on two occasions at middleweight, but he moved to super middleweight to challenge Lennox Clarke for the British and Commonwealth titles. Heffron and Clarke would put on a show, but Heffron would find a stoppage in round five as the ref waved off the bout, sparking fury from Clarke who believed he had more to offer.
