Dalton Smith is regarded as one of the best prospects the UK has to offer, Smith has now added more substance to that statement, as he dropped Sam O'Maison three times on his way to becoming the British super lightweight champion in round six in his hometown of Sheffield.
It was a cagey opening round, as both men tried to establish their range. The second round saw Smith ramp up the pressure, as he found many openings through his right hand, snapping O'Maison's head back on a couple of occasions. The third saw Smith find his breakthrough, as a combination finished with a right hand floored O'Maison heavily in the round. O'Maison rose to his feet but Smith opted not to rush his work, as he got back behind his jab and continued to dominate.

The right-hand of Smith was finding a home on O'Maison's chin on multiple occasions in the rounds that followed, causing O'Maison to sport a crimson mask. O'Maison shipped some heavy punishment in rounds four and five, before being sent to the canvas again toward the end of round six. O'Maison would get back up, but Smith smelt blood and would pounce on O'Maison, leading to a heavy knockdown, prompting the referee to stop the bout.
