Ashley Theophane used to box out of the same gym as one of the greatest to ever participate in boxing, Floyd Mayweather. Theophane would recall a time when WBA, WBC and IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr. would enter the gym to spar with Mayweather.
Spence Jr. was bursting onto the scene at the time of the spar with Mayweather, and when speaking with IntuBoxing's Chris Ridgway, Theophane confirmed he was in the gym at the time that Mayweather sparred with Spence Jr. and confirmed that Spence Jr. did well: "He done well against Floyd, so basically Floyd wants to work you out, I think the first time they sparred, Spence done very good Floyd didn't like that.
"They kind of sparred like four days in a row because Floyd was like I'm gonna break this kid.
"One thing I respect Spence for is that at that time he was still a young man and Floyd was trying to get into his head, but he was just standing up to Floyd, he didn't care, like he was a young man and he believed in himself."
Theophane did go on to confirm that Mayweather did work Spence Jr. out eventually: "Spence done well, but as it went on, Floyd did work him out and he does what he does." The full interview can be watched below.
