The Commonwealth Games is reaching its climax, and the boxing portion of the games has been nothing short of spectacular. Tonight, two welsh boxing heroes went on to guarantee themselves a medal.
First up, Rosie Eccles would pick up a victory over India's Lovlina Borgohain in the light middleweight division. It was a scrappy affair, but Eccles showed her toughness to come from behind to force a split decision victory over Borgohain. Eccles now advances to the semi finals where she faces Northern Ireland's Eireann Cathlin Nugent on Saturday.
The other Welsh presence who launched himself into a spot which guarantees himself a medal was light heavyweight Taylor Bevan. Bevan would produce a composed performance, which saw him utilise his range to defeat Jamaica's Jerone Ennis. Bevan moves on to a mouthwatering semi final with England's Aaron Bowen on Saturday.
There was a man who has been keeping a close on the week and had opted to take to Twitter to express his thoughts on the talent he was watching at the games, that man was promoter Eddie Hearn. Hearn took to Twitter, where he revealed that Bevan was one of the fighters that impressed him.
Really enjoyed the Commonwealth Games boxing last night. Still not convinced by no headgear when they are fighting 24/48 hours later. Really impressed by Wales’ Taylor Bevan and Northern Ireland’s @JudeGallagher2 ????
