Tyson Fury has had his say on the YouTube boxing scene, believing he can see more competitive fights down his local on any given weekend.
The trend of entertainers stepping through the ropes and punching each other is going from strength to strength. Whilst many people will argue where to mark the beginning, the KSI versus Logan Paul was certainly a breakthrough moment – one which also gifted the boxing world Jake Paul in all of his controversial glory.
Whilst he may not be impressed by the quality of pugilism on display, Fury has no issue with those involved joining the sport and putting on a show for their fans. He gave his thoughts to the True Geordie podcast.
“I’m actually in training for a real fight so I don’t watch all that YouTube stuff. Not that I’ve got anything against it, I think it’s great for the sport and the people who do it.”
“[It’s] great for everybody but it’s not my cup of tea. If I want to see a real fight, I go down to a Morecambe boozer on a Friday night and I watch a fight.”
The WBC Heavyweight Champion’s answer was in response to a question about the last KSI-led boxing event. The popular YouTuber / musician / fighter topped the bill by fighting two men in one night. He beat both handily – ironically being given more of a challenge from the rapper Swarmz than the professional boxer, Luis Pineta. He’s looking to face both Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, Tyson’s half-brother, in the future.
As for ‘The Gypsy King’, the real fight he mentioned is his title defence against Derek Chisora. He took issue in the interview with the suggestion that ‘Del Boy’ was an unworthy opponent, ultimately cutting it short in a sweary fashion. The bout is scheduled to take place on December 3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
