SMITH VS O’MAISON: The STARS Of The UNDERCARD

Written by Jared Parry on 7th August 2022.

On the night Dalton Smith was crowned British super lightweight champion in his hometown of Sheffield, a plethora of British prospects would make up a stacked undercard which showcased the talent coming through the British ranks.

The chief support saw Sandy Ryan avenge her loss against Erica Farias earlier in the year, as Ryan would right the wrong and produce a composed performance to pick up a victory over her rival on points to pick up the WBC international super lightweight title. Ryan now enters the WBC rankings and will now work her way towards a shot at world honours.

Jordan Thompson would dominate Vasil Ducar for nine rounds of their fight, using his range and working behind his jab. However, a dramatic final round would occur, as Ducar would pour it on Thompson, Thompson would be hurt and then be sent to the canvas heavily in the dying embers of the round. Thompson would be saved by the bell and survive to the victory by unanimous decision to pick up the IBF European cruiserweight title.

The always-improving Campbell Hatton put on a fantastic display to earn a shutout points victory over Michal Dufek. Hopey Price displayed his silky boxing skills as he coasted to a shutout victory over Alexander Meija. Johnny Fisher treated his Romford Army to a brutal second-round knockout victory, as a perfect right hand from Fisher would stop Michal Reissinger.

Aqib Fiaz returned and shook off any ring rust, as he defeated Jordan Ellison over six rounds. Kieron Conway locked in his bout with Austin Williams in Las Vegas in September, as he would defeat Gregory Trenel by stoppage in the fifth round. Talented Junaid Bostan moved to 3-0 as he managed to get Jose Manuel Lopez Clavero out of there in the final round. Finally, Nico Leivars looked to move to 3-0, however, an accidental head clash in round two would see a cut open on his opponent Angel Chavez, leading to the ringside doctor calling the bout off, resulting in a technical draw.
