Skye Nicolson captured the Commonwealth title, defeating Krystina Jacobs in her homecoming bout.
A classy performance from Nicolson saw her send Jacobs to the canvas heavily in round four with a perfectly timed right hook on her way to a unanimous decision victory.
Nicolson, who had been clamouring for a return to Australia to fight, came out to a huge reception. As the first bell rang, it would be Jacobs who would take to centre ring, but Nicolson’s counter right hooks were clearly the most eye-catching shots thrown by either fighter.
Nicolson seemed to show a new side of spite in this bout as opposed to her previous four professional contests, as she was sitting down more on her shots and would be landing vicious shots. Nicolson displayed this when a right hook would find a home on Jacobs’ chin, sending the Tasmanian to the canvas at the tail end of round four.

Nicolson continued her slick work but was nearly deterred. Round seven saw an accidental head clash which saw Nicolson’s eye begin to swell. Nicolson didn’t allow this to slow her down, as she just continued her dominance.
Nicolson would see out the final rounds the way she started the fight, as she never allowed Jacobs to get a foothold in the fight. Nicolson constantly had a smile on her face throughout the bout, but that smile would become bigger when the judges read out their scorecards that read 100-89, 99-90 and 98-91 to crown the Aussie fighter the new Commonwealth featherweight champion.
