Sky Sports immediately apologised following the press conference between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith as the pair crossed the line with their insults.
The build-up so far has been somewhat respectful, and the trash talk between the two has been entertaining, whether it was about hairlines or resumes, it all seemed to be said in jest, however, no one expected today’s press conference to take the turn it did.
Eubank Jr and Smith were on the subject of trading barbs on Instagram throughout the build-up, when said he’s ‘used to seeing girls in her DMs.’ However, Smith’s response was unexpected as he replied:
“You go on about girls, has anybody in this room ever seen you with a girl? Do you want to tell us something?
You’re 33 you’re going on about having kids, you’ve got to have a woman to have a kid, do you want to tell us something?
The fighters briefly moved on before Eubank Jr launched a personal attack of his own on Smith, making a very personal allegation.
“If you want to get dark and personal with it about being gay and do I like girls, I’ve been told by multiple sources that you cheat on your wife on the occasion.”
The conversation was immediately cut short at this point, and prompted a red banner to pop up on the screen apologising for the remarks.
At the end of the press conference, Sky Sports presenter Anna Woolhouse made it known that she believed they had crossed the line, before going on to apologise for any “offensive language”, “personal” and “homophobic” remarks.
The press conference has now been removed from Sky Sports’ YouTube. The fight was already highly anticipated fans, but even fans believe that the remarks made in this press conference were too far.
Eubank Jr and Smith come face to face for the final time before fight night tomorrow ahead of fight night. The unmissable bout emanating from the AO Arena in Manchester can be watched live on Saturday on Sky Sports Box Office for the price of £19.95.
