Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are both old school legends of the sport, but they’re happy to move with the times when it comes to some of the more ‘out there’ aspects of modern-day boxing.
One of those new developments is Jake Paul – a young American YouTuber and former Disney actor turned fighter who has divided opinion amongst fans like no other fighter.
Tyson and Holyfield – two regulars on best of all time lists – were asked about Jake and his brother Logan by FOX News.
“Those guys are helping boxing so much. Professional boxers, they are so jealous. They never made a million bucks yet. These guys made millions and millions of dollars. These guys never had an amateur fight, [other boxers] had hundreds of amateur fights.”
“He’s not fighting any of those guys, but he is fighting guys that are supposed to kick his ass. That’s how he’s fighting.”
Holyfield agrees with his old foe, turned friend, turned business partner. Whilst he’s well aware of the levels in the sport, ‘The Real Deal respects anybody who steps through the ropes.
“I felt that it helped boxing because it shows everybody these guys who really don’t know how to box, but they’re just swinging, they’re making all that money. These guys are not even professional. They just in there doing their thing.”
“The whole big thing about boxing is the confidence it takes once you get in there. It’s easy to talk about it. You can hit the bag, the bag don’t hit you back. But it’s another monster when you get in that ring.”
Whilst Jake Paul is now 6-0 in the sport – albeit against mostly retired MMA fighters – his brother Logan has stepped away to focus more on the entertainment driven business of pro wrestling. The former is currently in negotiations to face Tommy Fury.
As for Tyson and Holyfield, they’re currently promoting Holy Ears – cannabis edibles that are, you guessed it, in the shape of Holyfield’s ear. It’s nice to see the two legends laughing about the incident they’re perhaps most known for.
