LEE SELBY CALLS TIME ON BOXING CAREER

Written by Jared Parry on 5th April 2022.

Lee Selby was a real pioneer in Welsh boxing, starting on the small hall shows and working his way through all domestic and ranking belts, before capturing world honours in 2015, defeating Evgeny Gradovich for the IBF world title.

However, Lee Selby was knocked out by Gustavo Lemos in a world title eliminator on March 26th 2022 and has ultimately retired following the loss.

Selby hinted at retirement in the immediate aftermath of the fight.

A tough loss to take but sadly time waits for no man. Getting hard to go toe to toe with these young guns 10 years my junior.

Thanks for all the support back home, I’m all OK.

However, Selby has released a statement this morning, cementing the news of his retirement: “After 27 years of boxing it’s time to hang up the gloves. Welsh, Celtic, British, Commonwealth, European & IBF World Champion. I exit the ring with no regrets, happy, healthy and my family financially secure.”
