Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano shared the ring back in April and entertained the crowd in Madison Square Garden with ten thrilling rounds of action. Many called for a rematch immediately due to the level of excitement they produced.
Jake Paul, who promotes Serrano, has now confirmed on Twitter that they are interested in a rematch, but that his fighter’s priority is an undisputed fight.
“Me & MVP are negotiating with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom to get Amanda Serrano the fights she deserves.
Amanda’s priority is to be the 1st undisputed Puerto Rican champ. If and when she achieves that, she’s agreed to go to Ireland to fight Katie Taylor in front of 80,000 Irish fans.”
Katie Taylor won the first fight by split decision with two judges awarding Taylor the victory with scores of 97-93 and 96-93, but the third giving it to Amanda Serrano 96-94.
However, Serrano did have proven success and pulled off a spectacular fifth round which saw Katie hurt as the Puerto Rican landed 44 punches.
It is expected that a rematch would bring fireworks to Ireland as Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has previously stated that they are aiming for Katie’s next fight to be at Croke Park in Dublin.
First though, Amanda Serrano has her sights set on an undisputed battle at 126lb. She was recently ordered to fight Erika Cruz Hernandez by the WBA. With only one defeat to her name and 15 wins, the Mexican southpaw could be a tough test for Serrano.
A win against Erika Cruz Hernandez would crown Amanda Serrano undisputed champion at 126 and place her in a good position to meet Katie Taylor in the ring again.
