Josh Taylor CONFIRMS Joe McNally As His New Trainer

Written by Jared Parry on 10th October 2022.

The former undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor has announced that he will now be trained by Joe McNally going forward following a split with Ben Davison.

Taylor would vacate both the WBA and WBC titles after his very controversial decision victory over Jack Catterall in Glasgow back in February. After the victory, Taylor came out of the bout with all four of his major world titles (IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO) but talked about a potential move up in weight. Catterall had been calling for a rematch, but as months went by, Taylor vacated the WBA and WBC belts, leading people to believe he would be moving up to welterweight. Catterall kept plucking away to get a rematch, then he dropped a huge revelation as he put out a tweet in September that read:

“Evening @JoshTaylorBoxernow you are all settled with your new coach are we having it December 17th? You seem to have gone quiet.”

Immediately after this tweet, speculation was made as to who would be the man guiding Taylor going forward and a few claimed that they believed it was Joe McNally. However, Taylor has confirmed today that it is McNally who is his new trainer. McNally is a well-established trainer based in Liverpool who trains former world champion Liam Smith and promising Irish prospect Caomhin Agyarko to name a few.

It’s a pleasure to officially announce that I’ve teamed up with & gonna be working with Joe McNally moving forward. I’m excited for this new chapter in my career & producing more great nights ahead. 👊🏼 #TeamTaylor #TTT 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🌪 pic.twitter.com/vyaqnJh5fQ

Taylor vs Catterall is one fight that fans and many people in the boxing world believe that absolutely deserves a rematch following the controversy of the result the first time around. Catterall’s tweet suggests that there is ongoing talks for the pair to meet on December 17, but that is yet to be confirmed.
