Floyd Mayweather faces British entertainer Deji on 13 November 2022 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai – his latest in a string of exhibition fights that see him break the bank with just a little sweat.
The fight, which is propped up by Tommy Fury facing former US Marine turned professional fighter, Paul Bamba, will be broadcast on DAZN in the UK and US. The price to view has been revealed as £16.99, or $14.99 in the States. This is for existing customers, though, with people signing up for the first time also required to pay their monthly fee of £7.99. or $19.99 respectively.
Mayweather was last out in Japan in September in a three-rounder versus local MMA star, Mikuru Asakura. Mayweather didn’t even need the nine minutes, ending proceedings with a right hand at the end of the second.
Deji Olatunji – brother of YouTuber and fighter, KSI – lost his first three fights in boxing, all against a similar level of opposition to himself. For Deji, fourth time was a charm, as his opponent’s team threw in the towel after a dominating, and much-improved, display. The win was enough for the powers that be to think they could earn a pretty penny by sticking him in the ring with ‘The Best Ever.’
According to Mayweather, he was paid $1 million just to pick up the phone.
“They reached out and said ‘Floyd we’d like you in Dubai’. I said, ‘I’m not getting on the phone unless we know the numbers’. They wired me $1million. I got on the phone ASAP. I said ‘Let’s make it happen’.”
Whilst many take any opportunity to see one of the greats do it – even if it is just a run around – others absolutely won’t be tuning in following news of the price point. One fan on Twitter summed it up for that camp best, saying: ‘if the fight was at the end of my garden, I’d close the curtains.’
