The undisputed heavyweight clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury was thrown into doubt when the IBF ordered Filip Hrgovic against Usyk next.
As Hrgovic’s co-promoter, Eddie Hearn claims he has a job to do for his fighter, who took victory by decision over Zhilei Zhang in his last outing.
In an interview for Matchroom Boxing, Hearn declared that Usyk and Fury’s teams will do everything in their power to avoid Filip Hrgovic in an attempt to make the historic fight instead.
“Usyk’s team and Fury’s team, particularly Usyk’s team, will do everything they can to avoid Filip Hrgovic for now because they’d like to make the big fight with Tyson Fury, and for us it’s difficult because we obviously have a job to do for Filip Hrgovic.”
The promoter spoke on his relationship with the Saudi Arabia team who are seemingly heavily invested in hosting an undisputed heavyweight fight as their next in a line of boxing title fights.
“We also know the Saudi team very well who have been working very hard to the undisputed fight. So, I’ve spoken to them who obviously had their concerns and for boxing I think that fight is very important but also, Filip Hrgovic is mandatory so I’m sure there’ll be a resolution.”
Despite the challenges that this situation brings, Hearn is confident that there will be a solution to the problem and many fans will hope that this will be in the form of a deal made with Hrgovic in order to see Usyk and Fury face off next.
That is, of course, if Tyson Fury can defeat Derek Chisora for a third time as they are set face each other on 3rd December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Usyk
