Smith has produced some stellar performances as a professional, as he trains under his Grant Smith. Smith's first title came in his eighth bout, when he knocked out Lee Appleyard in six rounds to win the English title. Smith added the WBA Intercontinental title next, as he defeat Brian Pelaez by decision in Austria, this would be Smith's only fight outside the UK thus far.
The WBC International Silver title came next as Smith faced his toughest opponent yet, as he squared off with Ray Moylettte. In a scrappy affair, Smith was deducted two points for low blows, but came through, as he dropped Moylette twice in the tenth, before Moylette's corner threw the towel.
Smith was in the ring last weekend, as he was a part of the Ogawa Vs Cordina card in Cardiff. Smith dominated Mauro Perouane, stopping the tough Argentinian in six rounds. Both Smith and promoter Eddie Hearn stated that they wanted the British title fight in Cardiff last week, but an opponent could not be agreed.
Sam O'Maison is the man who will be standing in the way of Smith's British title dream. O'Maison is a former English champion, as he earned that honour with a third round knockout of Kevin Hooper. O'Maison has shared the ring twice with Kay Prospere, a bright talent on the British scene, however, the pair drew in their first meeting, before Prospere got a unanimous decision in the rematch.
Smith now gets the opportunity to fight in his hometown for his biggest title yet. But faces a tough task in O'Maison next, but victory here for Smith will open the doors up the levels as he would work his way towards the world title picture.
