CONFIRMED: Dmitry Bivol Defends World Title Against Gilberto Ramirez

Written by Jared Parry on 30th August 2022.

WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol is set to return to the ring to face his mandatory challenger, the undefeated former super middleweight world champion, Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on November 5th.

Promoter Eddie Hearn took to Twitter to confirm the bout, but announced that Matchroom and DAZN have partnered with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi to produce fight nights there and they will known as 'Champion Series' events.

Delighted to announce a huge new partnership with @dctabudhabi with the launch of our Champion Series in Abu Dhabi! First up @bivol_d v @ZurdoRamirezz a huge card of World & Undisputed Championship match ups live on @daznboxing ..press conf tomorrow in Abu Dhabi ???? @visitabudhabi pic.twitter.com/o8ppWFNAf0

— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) August 30, 2022

Last time we saw Bivol in the ring, he caused a seismic upset as he would defeat pound-for-pound great Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas on points back in May with a sensational performance.

Ramirez stepped up to the light heavyweight division in 2019 following a lengthy stint as WBO super middleweight champion. Ramirez has strung four victories together as a light heavyweight, all of which have come by knockout and it was Dominic Boesel who last fell fate to a Ramirez knockout.

Bivol and Ramirez launch a new venture for Matchroom and DAZN as they square off in the inaugural Champion Series at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi on November 5th.
