Former WBC Heavyweight champion and Olympic Bronze medallist, Deontay Wilder is set to have a statue of himself unveiled in Tuscaloosa.
The city director of Tuscaloosa Richard Rush confirmed in a press release this morning that city staff and the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports will be holding a ceremony on May 25th at 2pm.

The statue has been created by Tuscaloosa resident Caleb O'Connor, who has painted many famous murals in the city.
The Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox expressed his excitement to be commemorating Wilder's achievements with O'Connor's work: “We are excited to unveil this highly anticipated piece of public art featuring the Bronze Bomber – Tuscaloosa’s world-champion boxer – and created by Caleb O’Connor, who has adopted Tuscaloosa as his home and has created many other beautiful pieces in our City”
Don Stanley, the President of Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports weighed in on the support they have had for Wilder: "Our organization has long supported Deontay Wilder and his journey to becoming a heavyweight champion. We’re proud of his accomplishments and are thrilled the visitor center will be home to this incredible statue.
“His championship title has put our community, Deontay’s hometown, on the map and his statue will pay tribute to that.”
Wilder is expected to be in attendance for the unveilling, which takes place later this month. The statue will be placed at Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports visitor center on Jack Warner Parkway.
