Yarde Stops Sek In 7

Yarde Makes Light Work Of Sek, Step Up Needed!!

By Bryan Connolly   - @intuboxing

Anthony Yarde (15-0) walked into this contest having defended his European title successfully three times and his Intercontinental title twice. Sek (27-3-3) was having the biggest fight of his career having only won one of his title fights in his career. The biggest disadvantage was that Yarde has never faced a southpaw, and wasn't sure how he would react.

The first round had a cagey start to it, with Yarde looking for a straight snapping shot to back his Polish opponent up. Then out of nowhere a left hook scored and Sek touched down. Cracking start for Yarde.

The majority if this contest was Yarde controlling the pace and when he saw the targets he would spring into life and execute a hurtful fast punch. Sek is not anywhere near Yarde's league and the bout is very one-sided.

In round seven is when the magic happened. After being worn down round by round, Yarde knew it was time for the finish. Yarde backed up Sek onto the ropes and with the referee watching closely, Sek started punching back which just prolonged proceedings. Seconds later, a ripping right to the body crushed Sek and after a couple more shots the referee stepped in.

Yarde won this fight convincingly. Sek was totally out of his depth with the speed and power of Yarde.

So where does he go from here?

Joshua Buatsi is the name being called at the moment. Both fighters repeatedly say that's the one they want. I believe it too soon for Buatsi who is still inexperienced as a professional.

Callum Johnson defeated Frank Buglioni for the Commonwealth title and seems more the sort Yarde needs to further his career.

Personally, let's see Yarde have that next step up and mix it up with the better opponents in the division. He is dangerous to any opponent, so let's see how big he can be. Maybe a future world champion?
