Wilder To End Possibility of Joshua Unification Bout: Rejects DAZN Deal

Hopes of crowning an undisputed heavyweight champion of the World in 2019 go up in smoke

By Aaron Cooper   - @IntuBoxing

Can you hear that ladies and gentleman? That loud bang followed by a fading crackle is the sound of our hopes of seeing ANY of the top three heavyweight's squaring off against the other.

IntuBoxing.com has learned that WBC world heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder is going to sensationally reject the offer put to him earlier this week by sports streaming service DAZN. It has been reported that the offer was for that of $100m (£75m) for a three fight deal. The first fight of that deal would have been Wilder's mandatory bout against the World Boxing Council's number one contender, Dominic Breazeale. Should he have been successful the plan would then have been for the Tuscaloosa native to finally square off aganst Joshua to crown boxing's first undisputed world heavyweight champion of the World, since Lennox Lewis. The third bout would have seen a return match given the prize at stake.

However, as recent history has taught us with boxing's big men ... don't get your hopes up.

It now seems as though Wilder will remain plying his trade for the audiences of the ShowTime network. Who have showcased a lot of his career.

A formal decision and announcement of his next fight is expected early next week. Of course all of this could change should DAZN feel the need to go back and increase the offer. Although all signs point to Wilder staying put. Effectively killing any chance fight fans had of seeing Joshua and Wilder finally slug it out after years of posturing.

Tyson Fury's decision to abandon a rematch with Wilder following their pulsating, yet controvsersial draw, and sign a co-promotional deal with Bob Arum's Top Rank and ESPN. Seemingly narrowed the odds of the liklihood of a Joshua/Wilder fight actually taking place. However, unless Wilder announces that he is fighting on ShowTime for his next fight only. We can pretty much kiss any hopes of seeing he two sharing a ring goodbye for the forseeable future.
