Dillian Whyte Open To Making History
Trust Dillian Whyte to make my Monday morning interesting.
Last week you might have seen that Matchroom CEO, Eddie Hearn. Spoke of his desire to potentially match one of his heavyweight giants with that of UFC heavyweight Kingpin, Francis Ngannou. Whilst, as i said in the article, there are a lot of moving parts to consider. It seems as though Dillian Whyte is open to the Ngannou fight, in the octagon no less. Whilst he waits for a title shot that is long overdue.
“Imagine me going and winning the UFC heavyweight championship,” he added.
“I’d be the first boxer to ever do that and, with the stage of my career that I am, I can do that.
“As the interim heavyweight champion, going and winning the UFC undisputed heavyweight championship, I am definitely up for that.”
We last saw Whyte gain a measure of revenge by brutally knocking out Alexander Povetkin in Gibraltar at the end of last month. In his post-fight interview he did suggest that he would like to take an 'easier' stay-busy fight later in the year. However, his promoter, Eddie Hearn suggested that perhaps they could make the Deontay Wilder fight a reality. However, despite recent attempts, it seems as though Wilder is not so keen.
“The fight is there,” he told Fight Night on talkSPORT. “I’ve been calling for it, Wilder hasn’t said anything.
“His team haven’t shown any interest so I can only do what I can do, I’ve been calling for the fight for about three years now.
“Not once has he shown any interest. Obviously, I keep calling him out and keep doing my bit.
“We offered £8million when he got £1million to fight Luis Ortiz and he took that fight! He said I need to beat this fighter and another, whatever…
“These guys just talk c*** man, all I can do is the best I can do.”
Whyte is in something of a limbo status at present, with the world title picture tied up for at least the next six to twelve months because of the slated two-fight deal with AJ/Fury.
Whyte in the UFC .. I'd pay to see it, wouldnt you?
