Whyte's VADA test results negative for banned substances

According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, Dillian Whyte tested negative for any banned substances in VADA's pre-fight and post-fight random drug tests.

By Dean Goulding   - @deangoulding

Following news last month that British heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte failed a UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) random drug test prior to his unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten Oscar Rivas at the O2 in London, ESPN's Dan Rafael has reported that both Whyte and Rivas tested negative for all banned substances in the pre-fight and post-fight tests carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).

Boxing Scene's Thomas Hauser first reported on 24th July that an "A" sample provided by Whyte had tested positive for "at least one or more banned substances". Since then, many have reported, Hauser included, that the "A" sample had tested positive for epimethandienone and hydroxymethandienone, two metabolites of the banned steroid Dianabol.

The sample is said to have been collected on 17 June, with the results coming to light during the week before the fight. Whyte was cleared to fight by UKAD, and neither Rivas' team nor the World Boxing Council (WBC), whose interim belt was on the line, were notified prior to the fight.

It has been a tumultuous couple of weeks for Whyte in the wake of an impressive victory over a tough opponent that looked to cement his bid to challenge for Deontay Wilder's WBC heavyweight title. In fact, the WBC suspended Whyte's status as mandatory challenger to Wilder's belt pending further investigations. But the negative VADA test results might go some way in vindicating the "Body Snatcher", should he be the victim of a false positive.

If not, and the "B" sample to be tested by UKAD also comes back positive, it could be mean the end of Whyte's career, given he has already served a two year ban back in 2012 after testing positive for Methylhexaneamine following a fourth round KO of Sandor Balogh.
