Whyte vs Povetkin - Calm Before the Storm

IntuBoxing's Bryan Connolly describes today's weigh-in for Matchroom Boxing's final 'Fight Camp' event this Saturday, which includes a WBC title eliminator between Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin and a highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon.

By Bryan Connolly   - @intuboxing

The saying goes, the calm before the storm, and this is definitely what took place this afternoon at the weigh-in.

Both fighters took their time entering the room, and both stood relaxed on the scales with Whyte's eyes fixated on his opponent. Povetkin, always is the ice-man and never looks bothered by any of his opponents' antics.

Whyte weighed in at 18st 6oz, and Povetkin weighed in at 16st. Both fighters look in immaculate shape and ready for a war.

Katie Taylor, weighed in at 9st 8lbs 3oz and her opponent Delfine Persoon, came in at 9st 6lbs 7oz. During the face-off, Persoon stood over the white line and encroached to make the space smaller for Katie Taylor. Persoon wants revenge after losing a majority decision loss to Taylor in 2019.

On the undercard, Luther Clay, the WBO Global champion weighed in at 10st 5lbs 8oz, and the undefeated Chris Kongo, weighed in at 10st 5lbs 5oz.

The other explosive stare-down was between Alen Babic and Shawndell Terell Winters. Both fighters were heated during the press conferences this week, with Babic promising a early night knockout. Babic weighed in at 14st 9lbs and Winters was 13st 12lbs.

Matchroom Boxing's last Fight Camp event looks to be explosive and all the fights truly have the pedigree to light up the arena.
