Who fight's Fury in December?

We break down the chances of the WBC's top contenders

By Bryan Connolly   - @intuboxing

Reports surfaced over the last week that the WBC Hevayweight champion, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder's trilogy fight was no happening in December with Wilder being very quiet in the media. Yesterday, Fury took to social media to say, "The Gypsy King is coming home. See you all in December".

According to Dan Rafael, the leading contender to face Fury is the number 15 rank Agit Kabayel. The German, is co-promoted by Top Rank and is a former European champion. British Boxing fans will likely know the name well. With Kabayel having beaten Dereck Chisora by majority decision in November 2017.

Should that fight not materialise, we look at the top ranked 10 fighters by the WBC and their fight chances:

Interim World Champion - Povetkin - Povetkin will challenge Dillian Whyte in November after his knockout win in August.

Wilder - Wilder was due to face Fury reportedly in December in the trilogy fight, but didnt materialise. Maybe the trilogy fight will be in 2021 at some stage.

Usyk - Oleksandr Usyk has signed to face Dereck Chisora in a showdown that takes place on 31st October. A December date will be too soon after Chisora for a fully fit Usyk.

Ortiz - Luis Ortiz hasn't been in action since November 2019 when he was knocked out by Deontay Wilder in the seventh round. With Ortiz not fighting since, chances are it will not be Ortiz. Ruiz Jr - We haven't saw Ruiz since the AJ loss in Saudi Arabia, but he has been on social media and reports suggest he is training with Canelo to get fit.

Dillian Whyte - Dillian Whyte was mandatory for Fury's title but then suffered the knockout defeat to Povetkin. He's tied up with the rematch.

Parker - Parker has signed a contract to face the unbeaten Junior Fa, also in December.

Dubois - Currently, Daniel Dubois is fighting Joe Joyce for the British, European and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles in November.

Rivas - Oscar Rivas was last in the ring in a defeat to Dillian Whyte in July 2019. This fight was the only loss on Rivas' record.

Hrgovic - The big Croatian, would be a good fight for the title in my opinion. Tall, rangey and strong, Hrgovic would be a good fight. He is signed to fight Rydell Booker in November.

Hunter - The American, Hunter only tasted defeat to Usyk as a crusierweight. He is ranked 8th in the ring rankings, 7th by the WBO, 4th by the IBF and 9th by the WBA. He last fought in December 2019, earning a draw against Povetkin.
