What is Eddie Hearn's Big Announcement? It's NOT AJ/Wilder ... But it's pretty huge

EDDIE HEARN SET TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR U.S. STREAMING PARTNERSHIP WITH DAZN

Eddie Hearn is a smart man. No doubt you've all heard me say that before.

Nothing stays a secret for very long, the world of boxing is no exception. Now, I'm sure you, like me, are all eagerly awaiting news of unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua's next fight. Well, I'm afraid we must continue to wait.

However, Hearn's 'announcement' is a pretty big deal, and it shows a real statement of intent that Matchroom means business. Hearn's statement about Matchroom being one of the biggest promotions on this earth is no exaggeration, and his next move highlights this.

Earlier this year Top Rank's Bob Arum announced a partnership with ESPN+. For those fans outside of America, essentially it a direct to consumer app which will showcase Top Rank's stable of fighters in their fights for just $4.99 a month. Hot on the heels of this announcement, Eddie Hearn is following suit.

IntuBoxing has been told that Matchroom Boxing USA is set to announce a partnership with fledgling streaming service, DAZN (pronounced Da Zone apparently, but I'm not very 'street' so I'll just go with it).  It's a four year deal with a four-year option. The contract will call for Hearn and Matchroom to show 40 fight cards per year. That quota will be filled by allowing American audiences to see 24 fight cards from the UK and 16 from the US. Each fight card will carry a seven-figure license fee that will allow DAZN to compete with Showtime, HBO, and ESPN becoming a fourth major player in the US boxing landscape.

DAZN is being referred to as the 'Netflix' of sports. Its already made huge strides by having exclusive streaming rights to bring the NFL to Canada.

The big licensing fees should allow Hearn to attract major US talent, he's said he wants to make Matchroom the biggest promotion in the world, and this is one hell of a start. It remains to be seen as to who these signings will be. Joshua has an exclusive deal with Showtime and Hearn's only US star, Danny Jacobs is aligned with HBO. So neither man will be on the platform for the time being.

Hearn wont be short of options. There are a bunch of Al Haymon-managed fighters who are promotional free agents. Jermell Charlo, Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter are but a few names on Hearn's shopping list.

Hearn is ready to take over the world. So sit back, grab your popcorn and enjoy the show. Because if this comes off, it is us the boxing public who will win
