Briedis Dorticos face off for Muhammad Ali Trophy

By IntuBoxing   - @intuboxing

Mairis Briedis and Yuniel Dorticos will go toe to toe on Saturday, for the IBF Cruiserweight World Title and also the Muhammad Ali Trophy. Briedis comes into this contest with a record of 36 wins and 3 losses, with his last defeat coming against Oleksandr Usyk in 2018, losing by majority points decision with one of the judges scoring the contest as a draw and the other two giving Usyk 115-113. This was the first semi final of the 2017-2018 Cruiserweight tournament and Usyk went on to win the Muhammad Ali trophy.

Yuniel Dorticos, "the KO Doctor", has a professional record of 24 wins and 1 loss, with an impressive 88% of his wins coming by way of knockout. Dorticos, tasted his only loss also in 2018 against the former champion Murat Gassiev, after being knocked down twice in the final round. This was the second semi final of the 2017-2018 Cruiserweight tournament.

Both fighters have weighed in for the final of the World Boxing Super Series final and both fighters weighed in just under the 200lb cruiserweight limit, with Mairis Briedis weighing in at 198lbs and Yuniel Dorticos weighing in at 199 and half pounds.

Breidis said, "I love the fact that it will be in Munich as it reminds me of every time I went to train with the Klitschko brothers in Germany and the flights were always via Munich. Those are some great memories of the time spent with them there!"

Dorticos said, "The KO Doctor is back and ready to prescribe another dose of pain and take the Muhammad Ali Trophy back to Miami!"

In my opinion, Breidis needs to box smart but also keep his work rate for the distance and he has an aggression which can win this fight, but at the same time not take too many risks as one punch from the dangerous Cuban can end this contest. This will be a mouth watering fight and both fighters will want to be taking the trophy back home and avoid disappointment once again.

My prediction will be Breidis to win by unanimous decision, but he will be rocked and maybe knocked down at some point in the contest.
