"The future has arrived!"
Vergil Ortiz, the man tipped by many to be one of the brightest emerging talents in boxing, sent a crippling message to the scene with an impressive finish of Maurice Hooker Jr last night.
Welterweight Ortiz moved to 17-0 with a 100% knockout ratio last night, twice sending his man to the canvas. Oscar de la Hoya has even alluded to throwing him in with Pound for Pound contender Terence 'Bud' Crawford, who last night stated the Errol Spence Jr fight - one of the most anticipated in world boxing had now 'gone'.
Speaking with 'The Ak and Brak Show' on DAZN, de la Hoya said Ortiz Crawford would be 'an amazing fight', claiming that as a fighter himself, he sees qualities in his man, and always knoew what to look out for.
At 37-0 with 28 KOs WBO Welterweight champion Crawford would be by far the toughest test of Ortiz's career, it's likely we'll be waiting a while before seeing that fight, but it's clear Ortiz is headed for the names at the top of the division.
