Dave Allen produced the biggest win of his career, which headlined a big night for Matchroom
Last Saturday, news broke of that 'The White Rhino' will return to the ring after announcing his retirement from boxing, only six months ago in November. On this day in 2019, Dave Allen headlined the card against Lucas Browne, which also featured a packed card. Allen came into the contest on the back of three wins since his defeat to Tony Yoka. Browne, the former WBA champion, was also on a three fight winning streak following his loss to Dillian Whyte.
Browne, started the better fighter and in the opening round, landed his jab with success all the way thorugh, and in the second, Browne piled on the pressure by landing multiple uppercuts against the nervous Allen. Going into the third round, Allen came out strong and landed an uppercut of his own which seemed to break Browne's nose. Dave Allen then slipped a return shot and found an exceptional left hook, drilling it into his opponent’s body and, there was no getting up for Lucas Browne, meaning that an ecstatic Allen could celebrate wildly with Eddie Hearn and the rest of his team
This victory was the biggest for 'The White Rhino' and with him announcing his return can he return to this level?
On the undercard, Joe Cordina defeated Any Townend to capture the British Lightweight title, Conor Benn defeated Josef Zahradnik to move to 14-0, Dereck Chisora returned, following his defeat to Dillian Whyte, to defeat Senad Gashi and Josh Kelly defeated Przemyslaw Runowski to capture the WBA International Welterweight title.
