Maxi Hughes defeated Jovanni Straffon for the IBO World Lightweight Title by unanimous decision
Maxi Hughes, is the definition of a warrior who bided his time and took his career by the horns. His career has been defined as a Cinderella Story, as the Doncaster man was called in to fight Jono Carroll in August 2020, and shocked the Irishman winning by unanimous decision. Since then he has been on a devestating run of form, by beating Viktor Kotochigov by unanimous decision in October 2020.
His last fight was a British Title fight aginst Paul Hyland Jr with Hughes winning the vacant belt after the referee stopped the fight in the eigth round, following a head clash in the fourth, which caused Hyland's scalp to cut. Hyland was then sent to the canvas in the eight round, and shortly after the referee stepped in to stop the contest.
Tonight, 13 months after the Carroll fight, Hughes took on Jovanni Straffon for the IBO World Lightweight Title, and Hughes knew what he had to do to finish an amazing year and capture the title. And this was a war that Hughes wanted with every bit of his heart and Straffon had little comeback throughout the fight.

Hughes landed some huge headshots throughout the contest and hurt his opponent, and Hughes completed an astonishing performance and captures the world title in superb fashion. In my opinion this was a complete performance from Maxi Hughes and he has completed a dream of becoming a world champion.
The scorecards were unanimous, congratulations Maxi Hughes
