The former undisputed light welterweight champion improved his record to 37-0 with 28 KOs, becoming just the third man to stop Brook. But whereas Brook's previous two stoppage losses to Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr were due to severe eye injures, this was far more dramatic.
Brook started the fight well, utilising his sharp jab and landing a short left hook in round one that surprised Crawford. Crawford responded in the second by switching to southpaw, taking the Sheffield fighter's jab away and allowing him to land his own with more success. In the third, a still-cautious Crawford grew in confidence and began to find his range with his southpaw jab, with Brook landing some lead right hands in place of his jab. But in the fourth, Crawford picked up the pace in a big way, countering Brook's lead right with a thundrous right hook that 'Special K' never saw coming. Brook scambled to the ropes and was given a standing eight count by referee, Tony Weeks. But it was only a brief reprieve for the 34-year-old, as Crawford, one of the best finishers in boxing, was ready and waiting to follow up, which he did with six unanswered, powerful punches, forcing Weeks to stop the fight.
