Big win on Usyk Chisora undercard
Next up, and second title fight of the night sees Tommy McCarthy taking on Bilal Laggoune for the vacant European Cruiserweight title. Both fghters come into this contest as champions already with McCarthy holding the WBC International title and Laggoune, holding the IBF Inter-continental title. Laggoune all week this week looks relaxed and has only lost once before, when stepping up to the light heavyweight division to fight Doudou Ngumbu.

Coming to the end of the third round, and McCarthy has a mark under the left eye, and both fighters are utilising the jab well. Both are looking composed and both are standing tall. Again, in the fourth, both fighters are standing trading hooks but, McCarthy is boxing a very clever fight, as he has his hands down low which is inviting the Belgian forward and when he does the counter attacking style comes into action.
Late in the sixth round, there looked like a potential head clash and Laggoune called the referee as he thought something may have been in his eyes, as he has a problem. When the doctor was checking him he passed the checks for a potential concussion, but has Laggoune got a problem or did he need a break from the action? Only time will tell in this one, but McCarthy needs to capitalise on the sight problems of Laggoune, and pile the pressure on him early into the seventh round. The punches that hurt the most are the ones that you don’t see coming.
Since the incident at the end of the sixth round, Tommy McCarthy bossed the contest and landed some crisp hooks in the ninth, which fired up Laggoune once again. You cannot help but feel the middle rounds where laggoune had the problem with his eyes were won by the dominant McCarthy, but from the ninth onwards Laggoune has come back and stepped up his game.
The Belgian needs a big final round!
Three fights finished and the third fight to judges. The cards are in and the scores are 114-114, 116-112, 116-113 and the majority winner is Tommy McCarthy.
