'The Monster' enters the World Boxing Super Series

Two-weight world champion to enter bantamweight tournament?

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

Regular readers of my work will know of my love for the World Boxing Super Series. The removal of promoters and TV network issues has paved the way for the world to see the fights it wants to see. The best fighting the best. A war of attrition that leaves but one man standing.

The tournament has already produced a fight of the year contender in Murat Gassiev vs Yunier Dorticos, and with the Gassiev, Oleksandr Usyk final on the horizon we could well be in for another. But more significant than that, the final will enable us to see the first ever 4 belt undisputed cruiserweight champion ....

Now if that wasn't enough to convince you that the WBSS has breathed fresh air into our sport then the three names that have thrown their hat into the 118-pound tournament just might do. If you're a boxing nut like I am, you'll know the depth that the lower weight division's possess. 115-pounds and 126-pounds are jammed packed with talent. But then again so is the 118-pound (bantamweight division) and when you throw in names like WBA champion, Ryan Burnett. Newly crowned and very impressive IBF champion, Emmanuel Rodriguez. And WBO champion, Zolani Tete, the man responsible for the fastest knock out in world title history. You know you are on to a good thing.

Now maybe you're thinking it cant get better than that can it Aaron. Well my boxing friends, yes, yes it can.

IntuBoxing has learned today that should as he get past WBA 'Regular' champion, Jamie McDonell as he is expected to. The two-weight world champion, Naoya 'The Monster' Inoue will indeed enter the tournament.

Inoue is in the vast majority of the top boxing publication's top ten pound for pound. Beginning his career at the 108-pound (light-flyweight) limit. Inoue has claimed world titles at light-flyweight, before skipping flyweight entirely to claim the WBO junior bantamweight title. Known for his devastating body attack and punch power. 'The Monster' is certainly a welcome addition to the tournament.

Here's the kicker, depending on how the WBSS seed the fighters in the tournament, it is highly likely that one of the champions will have to face Inoue in the first round!!
