'The Monster' Destroys McDonnell

Naoya Inoue is the new WBA 'regular' bantamweight champion.

Wow, just wow.

Naoya Inoue showed the world just why he is called 'The Monster' after dismantling former WBA 'Regular' champion, Jamie McDonnell in under two minutes.

Inoue was the pre-fight favourite going into the fight in front of a heavily partisan crowd in Tokyo, Japan. Inoue came roaring out of the corner at the opening bell as many expected that he might do. It did not take long for Inoue to target the body of McDonnell, which caused the Doncaster man to cover up and head to the ropes. This is one of the things I said in my pre fight preview he simply must not do, and it proved disasterous for him. Inoue blitzed McDonnell with a right hand,  and followed it up with a left hook that sent the former champion sprawling to the canvas. McDonnell got up at the count of eight but looked in all sorts of trouble, and before he knew it the referee, Luis Pabon had waved off the contest at 1 minute 52 seconds of the first round.

Inoue handed McDonnell his first professional defeat in a decade, and has become a three weight world champion at the age of just twenty-five and in just his sixteenth professional fight.

As previously stated on, Inoue will now enter the bantamweight tournament of the World Boxing Super Series where he will join fellow world champions, Ryan Burnett, Zolani Tete and Emmanuel Rodriguez.
