WBC president ordered to face interim titlist

30th November 2013. No, I haven't lost my marbles rambling a random date from history. That was the last time WBC light-heavyweight champion, Adonis Stevenson (29-1-1,24KO) last faced a mandatory challenger.

But that is all about to change.

WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that Stevenson has been ordered to face 'interim' champion and mandatory challenger, Oleksandr Gvozdyk (15-0,12KO) NEXT.

Purse bids have been scheduled for July 2nd, this is of course unless both sides are unable to come to an agreement. Should it go to purse bids, there will be a 65/35 split in the champion's favour.

Carl Moretti of Top Rank, Gvozdyk's promoter is said to be in communication with Yvon Michael, the promoter of the champion.

Stevenson was last seen on May 19th at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto battling Badou Jack to a majority draw, though it must be said that not one judge awarded the bout in his favour. The WBC had said they would listen to a request from Jack's team should he want a rematch, but it seems the governing body has changed its tune.

Gvozdyk claimed the interim strap on March 17th with a unanimous decision victory over France's Medhi Amar on the undercard of Jose Ramirez's victory over Amir Imam, claiming the WBC super-lightweight world title in the process.
