Sam Eggington made his Birmingham return fighting the unbeaten Hungarian Peter Kramer for the vacant IBO Continental

Sam Eggington made his Birmingham return fighting the unbeaten Hungarian Peter Kramer for the vacant IBO Continental

By Bryan Connolly

Last Saturday night, Sam Eggington made his Birmingham return fighting the unbeaten Hungarian Peter Kramer for the vacant IBO Continental Super Welterweight Championship. Kramer was very inexperienced as a professional, and fighting Eggington, in his home city, was a massive jump up in class.

The first bell rung, and Eggington came out like a bull in a china shop. He backed Kramer up onto the ropes, and hit him with fast and vicious combinations to both the head and the body. Was a routine round for Eggington and his class shone brightly.

The second round was more of the same action. Eggington's game plan is obvious to all in attendance that he was going to out work, and "bully" the Hungarian. Kramer is throwing some shots back, but Eggington finishes the round with two explosive body shots and the crowd went wild.

What a start to the third round. Eggington comes out quickly and lands two huge shots to the face and a crushing right hook to the body. Kramer backed up immediately but is still trying to land shots of his own. If it carries on like this, the fight is not going to last much longer.

From the start of round four, Eggington was very conservative, but less then a minute into this round Kramer gets tagged with a series of straight shots and uppercuts and referee Terry O'Connor stops the contest.

So whats next?

"Savage" Sam has been reported to go to America and fight on a major platform under the Matchroom brand. But, we do know as its been confirmed, he will feature on the undercard of Amir Khan vs Samual Vargas contest in September. His agressive and ruthless style would be loved by the Americans, and his fighting stance and style is that of film character Rocky Balboa.

The main name that is being suggested at the moment is ageing Mexican Antonio Margarito. At 40 years old, is still performing well having beaten Carson Jones last year but 16 years his younger Eggington should come through unscathed.

Another fight I believe could be awesome for all fans is, Brian Carlos Castano who is the WBA Super Welterweight Champion and the Argentine is undefeated in 15 contests. This could be a blockbuster.

Domestically, i reckon Liam Smith or Amir Khan would be a realistic attraction especially if Smith could win the WBO title against Munguia.

Either way September needs to be a bigger challenge, especially as its live on Sky Sports at the Birmingham Arena.
