Rumour - Chris Eubank Jr vs John Ryder - WBSS Final Undercard

Both men are set to appear and will act as reserves for the final?

The boxing world rejoiced as news broke that WBA 'Super' super-middleweight champion, George Groves was declared fit enough to compete in the World Boxing Super Series Final against fellow Briton, WBC 'Diamond' champion, Liverpool's Callum Smith.

There has been a lot of talk on social media as well as from Kalle Sauerland himself, that should 'Saint' George Groves be not fit enough to compete, then Chris Eubank Jr would have been considered a front-runner to replace him.

IntuBoxing has learned today that the final of the World Boxing Super Series tournament may not be the only all-British clash on the cards. The WBSS has carried a backup reserve clash should one of the tournament's contenders become injured, or unable to compete. We all saw this come into play when Nieky Holzken stepped into to face Callum Smith in the semi-final's following former WBA light-heavyweight champion, Jurgen Braehmer's withdrawal through injury.

It is likely therefore that we will see a clash between beaten semi-finalist, Chris Eubank Jr and John Ryder who appeared on the undercard of the George Groves/Jamie Cox quarter-final, knocking out Patrick Nielsen in five rounds. Since then he has also gone onto stop Jamie Cox in two rounds on the undercard of Haye/Bellew 2. It has been thought that he was chasing a fight with WBA 'regular' champion, Tyrone Zeuge, but a chance to appear on such a big stage once more could be too hard to pass up.

Eubank came through the tournament by stopping Avni Yildrim in three rounds, before suffering a unanimous decision loss to Groves.

Should neither man be in a position to compete, then Zach Parker, who featured on the Groves/Eubank & Smith/Skoglund undercards would then step in.
