Rumour - Canelo/Jacobs in the works

Golovkin deal dead - De La Hoya approaches Hearn

Fans wishing to see the long-awaited rematch between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, look away now.

Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya claims that any deal between his charge and the WBC, IBF & WBA champion is now ‘dead’.

Why? I hear you ask. Simple, money.

De La Hoya had said that if Golovkin were to move slightly from his 50/50 demands then it would be possible to make a deal. However, it is thought that the Kazakh champion is staying steadfast, believing he deserves a bigger piece of the purse than 35%. Golovkin cites all of the wasted time suffered owing to Canelo’s failed drug tests and suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

IntuBoxing has now learned that De La Hoya has in fact approached Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn. WBA’s #1 challenger, Danny Jacobs is promoted by Hearn, and Hearn has claimed this morning that an official offer has been received for Jacobs to fight Canelo on September, 15th. Mexican Independence Day.

Should this deal go through, this will likely pave the way for Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, to begin negotiations with WBO middleweight champion, Billy-Joe Saunders and his promoter, Frank Warren.
