RUMOUR - WBSS Cruiserweight Final In Jeopardy!!

Usyk unable to compete??

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxing

I love my job, reporting boxing news to fans worldwide is an absolute pleasure. But then there is the boxing fan that burns inside, and that fan isn’t best pleased as I scribe this article to you.

There is a very distinct possibility that boxing fans across the globe will be deprived of potentially one of the best fights this year!

IntuBoxing has learned that WBC & WBO cruiserweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk (14-0,11KO) may not have recovered sufficiently from the elbow injury he suffered earlier in the year, rendering him unable to compete in the World Boxing Super Series final, slated for July 21st in Sochi, Russia. There is also talk that negotiations from the Ukranian’s team have hit a snag. Either, or it seems unlikely Usyk will compete.

Instead it is rumoured that Andrew Tabiti (16-0,13KO) will instead take on WBA & IBF champion, Murat Gassiev (26-0,19KO).

Clearly not the news the boxing public wanted, and it feels like such a cruel twist of fate for boxing fans everywhere. Especially after getting positive news that George Groves had overcome his injury and could compete in the super-middleweight final.

But mark my words this is no Nieky Holzken replacement situation. Tabiti, a 28-year-old from Chicago, Illinois is no joke and is ranked as one of the top ten cruiserweights in the world!

Its devastating news for Usyk and of course for Gassiev as the winner of the fight would have been crowned the first ever four-belt undisputed world cruiserweight champion! But given the mantra’s of both men. This is a fight we will no doubt see further down the line.

As soon as IntuBoxing gets a firm confirmation, we will of course let you know.
