Pacquaio/Matthysse Fight In Serious Jeopardy!

Eight-weight world champion's next fight in serious doubt

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

IntuBoxing has learned from a variety of sources in WBA 'Regular' welterweight champion, Lucas Matthysse's home country of Argentina, that there is a major issue relating to the champions fight in July against the eight-weight world champion, Manny Pacquaio.

The bout is due to take place on July 15th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - with ESPN+ carrying the event in the United States on July 14th - due to the time difference.

The issue seems to pertain to the fact that the financial backers have not paid their fee to host the bout as was originally agreed.

Pacquaio's MP promotions are handling the promotional aspect of the fight in its entirety. Pacquaio is using Bob Arum's Top Rank to handle the American television, hence the fight being on ESPN+.

For all intents and purposes, it sounds as though this bout will be postponed for the foreseeable future. The fight was met with skepticism from the off, as there were concerns around the financial aspects of the fight and whether the group from Malaysia would be able to find the funds necessary to facilitate the fight.

This will be Pacquaio's first fight back in the ring since losing his WBO title to Jeff 'The Hornet' Horn in Austrailia last year. Matthysse picked up the title with an eight round knockout over Thailands Tewa Kiram in January of this year.
