In something of a surprise, WBA 'Regular' bantamweight champion, Jamie McDonnell was the lighter man on the scales ahead of his title clash with Naoya 'The Monster' Inoue in Tokyo, Japan tomorrow. The bout will air live on Sky Sports tomorrow afternoon from 1 pm.

McDonnell (29-2-1-KO13) hit the scales at 8st 5lbs 8oz. His opponent came in bang on the 8st 6lbs limit ahead of the long-awaited clash at the Ota-City General Gymnasium. Although I fully expect the champion to be the bigger man once he has fully rehydrated by the time he climbs between the ropes tomorrow night.

This will be the seventh and without question the hardest defense of McDonnell's title which he won against Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat in May 2014 on the undercard of the Carl Froch/George Groves rematch. McDonnell is a career bantamweight and has previously held the IBF title at the weight.

Inoue has already won titles at light-flyweight and super-flyweight divisions, having skipped flyweight entirely. He is the favoured man in the bout. But will have to navigate a man who holds many physical advantages, including a five-inch reach over himself.  Many are writing off McDonnell, but for the educated boxing fans amongst us will know McDonnell is one of the most underrated fighters in world boxing and will certainly think he can rock the apple cart of the man they call 'The Monster'.

Be sure to look out for my in depth analysis that will be released later today, this fight certainly isn't as cut and dried as you'd think.
