Paul Humphreys - Intuboxing.

Speed - Loma has always had really fast hands, especially when punching in combination. His accuracy is off the charts at times, leaving opponents bemused as to what they have just been hit with. His footwork is lightening fast too as well as his reflexes leading to the nickname 'The Matrix'. Speed is Lomachenko's bread and butter. Loma has never really been a power puncher as such and up at lightweight I dont think he will carry serious power up that high , however he does have great shot selection and his punch placement has been devastating at times. Intuboxing score -8

Heart - Lomachenko had a real gut check in only his second pro bout, dropping a 12 round split decision to grizzled veteran Orlando Salido who came in massively over weight and and fouled Lomachenko all night. Loma, despite all this, stood strong and fought in the trenches with the Mexican warrior. There is absolutely no questioning Loma's heart. Intuboxing score - 9

Body punching -Lomachenko has tremendous accuracy and never neglects the body scoring a terrific knockout of Jorge Linares with a peach of a shot to the liver. Look for Loma to invest to the body early here to slow Lopez down and to take away the leavage of his long powerful shots. Intuboxing score- 9

Mindset - Lomachenko is so calm in the ring and almost does things on instinct. He always seems to be able to goad his opponents into fighting how he wants them to. I feel this is where Lomachenko has a massive advantage in this fight because as of late Lopez mindset has seemed to crack actually bursting into tears during the build up documentary saying his dad has basically pushed him into this position...worrying Intuboxing score - 10

Overall 45/50

Matthew Brown - Boxing Updates

Speed - Teofimo Lopez has excellent hand speed for one shot. His counter punching is effective because of is one punch hand speed. His pull counter is right up there with Errol Spence. Lopez also catch and shoots at an elite level. He utilized this to discourage Diego Magdaleno in the 2nd round of their matchup. Lopez was able to counter quickly with an uppercut. Above all else, Lopez’s speed is sudden. His combination punching is excellent, but his hand speed is not top shelf while throwing them. Lopez has a tendency to load up when throwing combinations. His reflexes are top shelf as evidenced by his excellent counterpunching and sudden strikes. Rating 9

Power - It’s pretty obvious to anyone that has watched a Teofimo Lopez fight that Lopez carries top shelf power for the lightweight division. His destruction of Mason Menard cemented that. You know someone has soul crushing power when your opponent falls face first to the canvas. The thing that makes the power of Lopez special is that he carries it in both hands. The focus has been on the right hand of Lopez, but the left hook is just as devastating as any punch Lopez has in his arsenal. Add a power jab and a nice straight right hand to the body that takes the wind out of his opponents and you are looking at the heaviest hitter in the division. Rating 10

Heart - The heart of Lopez hasn’t truly been tested in the ring because Lopez is usually on the giving end of a beating in the ring. One could look at the fight where he was criticized most as an indictment of his heart. That was against Masayoshi Nakatani. Lopez struggles to close the show, but he was able to bank rounds for a lopsided decision. After the fight, Lopez lamented fighting a guy so tall. That’s not something you like to hear from a fighter, but Lopez has always been straightforward and honest. It’s very hard to question the heart of a fighter that is willing to take on a consensus top 5 pound for pound fighter at the ripe old age of 23. Rating 8

Body punching - Lopez was able to stop European champion, Edis Tatli with a well placed, powerful body shot. Because of Lopez’s exceptional power, his body shots have a big effect on his opponents. Lopez is adept at using his jab to the body to change the eye level of his opponent. The only question is whether or not Lopez commits to a sustained body attack. Rating 9

Mindset Much has been made of the mental makeup of Teofimo Lopez outside of the ring. His familial issues have been well documented. For those that need a refresher, let’s revisit it briefly. His marriage to his wife, Cynthia, was met with disapproval from his family members. However, the biggest source of drama has been the rocky relationship that he’s had with his father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr. The elder Lopez has been accused of being less than nurturing to his son. It seems to have a huge effect on junior, as he broke down in tears during the documentary style shoulder program, “Blood, Sweat and Tears.” How has that affected Teofimo in the ring? How will it affect him against Lomachenko? Hasn’t seemed to affect him in the ring. Lopez is seemingly using it as fuel. He’s been quoted as saying that maybe conquering Lomachenko would improve his relationship with his father. In the ring, his mindset is simply seek, destroy and put on a show. Rating 9
