IntuBoxing has learned that three-weight world champion & pound for pound elect, Vasyl Lomachenko is to undergo surgery tomorrow.

Lomachenk is said to have injured his right shoulder in the second round of his WBA lightweight title fight over Jorge Linares. The bout saw Lomachenko dropped for the first time in his career before rallying to stop Linares in the tenth round with a sickening liver shot. The bout saw the former Olympic champion claim a world title at a third weight in just his twelfth professional fight.

Lomachenko is said to have suffered a torn labrum which occurred after a partial dislocation with the shoulder joint putting itself back into place.

"I couldn't use my right arm, throw my right hook, and it was very uncomfortable to continue my fight," said Lomachenko, speaking to ESPN immediately following his examination by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

Lomachenko’s ring return will obviously be delayed, a date of August 22nd was slated for a potential world title defense. The surgery will render that impossible.

IntuBoxing wishes Vasyl Lomachenko a speedy recovery.
