Lewis Ritson Destroys Paul Hyland Jr

Ritson claims Lord Lonsdale title in just eight months.

Lewis Ritson (16-0,10KO) has made history!! He had claimed the Lord Lonsdale belt outright following three successful defences in just eight months. Mores the point, Lewis Ritson has claimed the Lord Lonsdale belt outright in just four rounds!!

Whilst there has been much attention has been paid to 'Pretty Boy' Josh Kelly in the build-up to this card, I will stick my neck on the line and say that it is Ritson and not Kelly that is the most exciting prospect that this country has. Ritson is huge at the 135-pound limit and there is not a man at domestic level that can hang with him. 'The Sandman' is ruthless, powerful and deadly. Consider this, Lewis Ritson nearly walked away from boxing not so long ago and look at how far he has come.

A stiff jab caught the attention of Paul Hyland Jr (18-1,7KO) early and it wasn't long before Hyland Jr was in real trouble. Hyland looked stunned at the 24-year olds power as he was trapped in the corner. Two hard right hands put Hyland Jr on the seat of his pants and rather than trying to box and move Hyland Jr showed both bravery and stupidity as he decided to get into a firefight with Ritson. But it was in vain, a third knockdown saw the fight called off at two minutes and fifty-three seconds of the first round.

"Every belt I win, that will go on my Dad's mantelpiece, not mine. He has trained me since I was eight years old. With support like this, Eddie Hearn cannot go anywhere else." Riston told Sky Sports in his post-fight interview.

Bright things await this young man, who after the premature birth of his daughter nearly opted to work in bleach factory to support his family.

Bravo Lewis. Bravo
