Lawrence Okolie vs Matty Askin

Too much too soon?

By Bryan Connolly   - @intuboxing

Tomorrow night Matty Askin (23-3-1) defends his British Cruiserweight title against the Olympian Lawrence Okolie (9-0) on the undercard of Joshua and Povetkin.

Many experts and pundits have said maybe Okolie has taken this fight too soon into his professional career, and its very risky. Many have predicted that Askin will come out on top with experience being the key factor.

Okolie knows this, his coaches and his team know he lacks the experience of Askin but Okolie has already headlined events, and he is confident in his own ability.

Askin walks into this fight on a five fight winning streak and has battled three opponents previously that boast an unbeaten record, stopping two and winning the other by unanimous decision. "The assassin" knows he has the beating of many fighters in his division as he packs a heavy punch.

Okolie gave an amazing showing when he defeated Isaac Chamberlain, in their London grudge match early in 2018. Okolie has had a great amateur career and will keep his cool. It will also be interesting to see how he will cope in taking some big punches.

Bryan's Conclusion

This will be the best undercard fight on the event, in my opinion. Two fighters that want to tear it up. I think of this being like a Rocky fight where they stand toe to toe and trade punches. Askin (Rocky) looking for the big power punches and Okolie (Apollo) looking slick and working behind a stiff jab.

Either fighter can win this one and the crowd at Wembley will not be disappointed. Either fighter will propel themselves up the rankings in the division and go onto challenging for European or International belts.
