Three years on from KSI vs Logan Paul and how the boxing world has changed
Today, August 25thmarks three years since YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul fought in the biggest white-collar boxing fight of all time selling out Manchester arena and doing over 1 million pay per view buys. Ultimately the fight ended in a draw, however with a stacked undercard of different youtubers fighting each other, fans were not disappointed.
In three years, a lot has changed in the boxing world because of this fight. KSI and Logan Paul went on to fight again in a professional fight, selling out the Staple Centre. Even Matchroom Boxing got involved with this fight after Eddie Hearn couldn’t deny the numbers of the first bout. In this fight KSI managed to take the win back to the UK after being knocked down but still manging to go on and win the fight by split decision.
After their rematch that will go down in history, Logan Paul’s younger brother Jake, who fought KSI’s younger brother Deji on the undercard of the first fight wanted to get back in on the action. Jake Paul wasted no time in showing the world that he wanted to be a “real boxer” after he fought YouTuber “AnEsonGib” who was thought to be the best of the rest outside of KSI and the Paul brothers. Jake defeated Gib inside the first round and changed the boxing game forever.
After Jake Paul beat Gib in spectacular fashion he decided youtubers weren’t enough and he wanted to start his journey of becoming a true boxer. As his skill level wasn’t up to scratch when it came to real boxers, he started to call out pro athletes that he knew he could beat and NBA star Nate Robinson took the bait. After Jake had a long training camp in Big Bear with coach and former boxer Shane Mosley, he again showed the world he was ready for a bigger challenge as he knocked Nate Robinson out with a brutal hook on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr.

The Problem Child showed he was taking the fight game seriously and that boxing had to do the same with him.#PaulWoodley | 29 August | BT Sport Box Office pic.twitter.com/xyW0yNmJBF
After this fight was when the rest of the boxing world really started to take notice of the “Problem Child” Jake Paul, as professional fighters started to call him out looking for what they saw as an easy pay day. Jake chose to face former MMA champion Ben Askren who was predominantly a wrestler. This fight was huge when it came to publicity. The fight was shown on new PPV service “Triller” with performances from Snoop Dog and Justin Bieber before the fight. Again, the problem child shocked the world, beating a former fighting champion inside two minutes.
Now that the boxing world is taking these influencer fighters seriously it has given us some great moments. Logan Paul came back after his defeat to fight boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in an exhibitionmatch, with no winner being crowned on the night.
We are now also in the build-up to Jake Paul fighting former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, with Jake saying he wants to fight Canelo if he wins.
Whether the true boxing fans agree with it or not. Not only did KSI and Logan Paul put more eyes on the sport and make it more exciting, they elevated it. There are now more kids wanting to put on a pair of gloves. Young fighters at the start of their career earning more money to pay for their training camps that they might not have been able to afford otherwise. But ultimately love them or hate them, people want to talk about them. Making boxing a more interesting place.
