Heartbreak For Price

Despite A Commendable Effort, Price KO'd In The Fifth

It was the last chance saloon for popular Liverpudlian David Price. But sadly it wasn't meant to be. Alexander Povetkin is still the mandatory challenger to the WBA and WBO champion, whoever that may be!

However ... Povetkin did not have it his own way. The superior skill set clearly with Povetkin who began the fight the busier of the two men. Povetkin able to dart in and out of range to land some good looping hooks, although Price covered up well. Although he was guilty of perhaps standing in front of Povetkin for too long. The second saw Price get into the fight a bit more, trying to establish a jab. But again it was Povetkin's ability to get in and out of range with some quick eye-catching raids that saw him win the fight. The third stanza saw Price dropped with a huge right hook which planted Price on the canvas. But this was not the end, oh no. Price landed a huge left hook at the end of the third that had Povetkin staggering across the ring.

The fourth was a quieter round, Povetkin seemingly looking tired and Price working his way into the fight. However, a huge right hand from Povetkin had Price out on his feet, the follow up left leaving him flat on the canvas and the fight was over.

Povetkin told Sky Sports

"I want to thank all the people who have supported me. People love boxing here.

"I felt the distance and realised how I can knock him out.

"I want to say to people in Cardiff who love boxing, they gave me a warm reception - thank you."

Following the post fight interview. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that although Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to Joshua's title, he had another heavyweight willing to step in the ring wit the heavy hitting russian.

Dillian Whyte was quick to step into the eye of the camera with these comments.

"Yeah I'll fight him next," said Whyte.

"Let's do it, let's make it."
