Matchroom CEO expresses desire to put on epic cross-promotional battle.
We all know that Matchroom Boxing's CEO, Eddie Hearn likes to put on a spectacle. Let's face it, he's probably the best in the sport at putting on 'The Big Event'.
While talking on the AK & Barak Show today, Hearn hinted at his desire to put on future bout, pitting new UFC World Heavyweight Champion, Francis Ngannou against one of his top heavyweights. Be it Anthony Joshua, or even Dillian Whyte. Whyte of course is no stranger to throwing feet, as well as hands. Having been a kickboxer before turning his attention to the sweet science. Hearn further expressed a wish to put on a show with female boxing superstar, Katie Taylor.
“AJ wants to be the best, but he also wants to do different things once he meets his goals,” Hearn told The AK and Barak Show in his weekly report. “So a fight with Francis Ngannou isn’t impossible. “Just like Katie Taylor vs. Cyborg or Nunes potentially.”
“I love Francis NGannou. “We almost had a presser with Dillian Whyte and him, but the UFC shut that down after we taped it. We do have the footage, though. “I would love to see a double matchup with NGannou and Dillian Whyte. One in the cage and one out of it. Ditto for Taylor and Nunes.”
Ngannou announced himself to the world last weekend. Smashing heavyweight king, Stipe Miocic, who many regard as the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time. In the second round of their bout. The problem with putting on such a display is that i cant see many wanting to step into the octagon to face him. Not without getting paid first.
Of course, all of this will hinge on whether UFC brass would be willing to let their new star step into the ring with the likes of Joshua, or Whyte. Ngannou has previously stated that he would love to face Tyson Fury. Believing 'The Gyspy King' to be worthy of the challenge.
For now, it's a pipe dream. But if it were to happen, it could well break box-office records.
